Southwest CDC is developing a comprehensive approach to addressing unemployment in Southwest.  While restrictions on SNAP benefits are getting tighter, our aim is to ensure that residents of our community can keep their benefits as they work towards a stable career. By providing quality job readiness workshops in tandem with an expanding list of certification training programs, we are building a confident and competent workforce that will benefit both local employers and the workers themselves.

Our two-week Job Readiness Workshop equips participants with the necessary tools they will need to be successful in the workforce. Covering topics such as time management, budgeting, resume building, interview techniques, soft skills (conflict resolution, problem solving, etc.), workers’ rights, and more, participants will learn how to become ideal candidates for any position they pursue.

Seats are limited, so this is a competitive program. Currently, we are focused on servicing SNAP recipients who are residents of 19142, 19143, and 19153. Candidates who do not receive SNAP benefits and/or live outside of these zip codes will be placed on a waitlist until we are able to expand the program. In December 2025, we graduated our first cohort of Certified Phlebotomy Technicians. Through hard work, dedication, and the support of the Southwest CDC team, these six individuals were able to conquer nine weeks of rigorous notetaking, studying for exams, and hands-on experience.
